MATRIKX Filters
Plekx - The Amazing Filter Medium

Our Symbol of Quality & Performance

The "Genuine MATRIKX Extruded Carbon" seal is our way of letting you know when you use a MATRIKX™ filter our MATRIKX core, you are getting the very best product available today.  At KX Industries, we make our filters only from genuine MATRIKX extruded activated carbon cores using proprietary solid-state extrusion technology.  This process yields a product that is highly porous and extremely uniform.  As a result, our filters provide an enormous spectrum of performance advantages while costing approximately the same as conventional filters made using loose granular activated carbon.

MATRIKX filters, manufactured in over 50 different outside and inside diameters and in lengths from 0.100" to 60" are finished using a variety of prefiltration and end capping technologies.  Their production is highly automated and supported by both on-line and off-line quality control systems.  Specialized adsorbent additives can be coated onto individual carbon particles and then extruded to produce complex composites with unique adsorptive properties.  The extrusion process is remarkably flexible and custom filter sizes can often be developed and tooled for extremely modest investments.   Extruded carbon filters provide all of the following features and benefits:

No release of carbon fines

Extruded filters do not release activated carbon particles, or "gray water," during startup or operation.

No channeling, fluidizing or bypassing

Extruded carbon is a rigid structure, preventing movement of particles and the formation of channels or defects in the adsorbent structure.

Low pressure drop

Water flows through an extruded filter in the "radial" direction, from the outside to the inside, presenting the entire exterior surface of the filter too the incoming fluid, not just one edge as in most GAC filters.

Low binder content and high dirt capacity

Only a small amount of thermoplastic binder is used in the extrusion process (about one-half that of a molded carbon black) producing a carbon block of enormous strength.   Nearly the full capacity of the original activated carbon block is retained, while the best possible dirt holding capacity and low pressure drop are obtained.

"Blowout" of GAC is eliminated with extruded filter elements

Extruded filters can withstand higher levels of pressure than most GAC filters without collapsing.

Extruded filter elements are combination "carbon/sediment" filters

In addition to chemical adsorption, extruded filters remove particulates with absolute removal ratings from 10 to 0.5 µm.

Extruded carbon's cost: performance ratio - the best in the industry

Extruded carbon filters are produced in volumes many times that of molded carbon blocks, allowing KX Industries to deliver the best product at the lowest price.

Extruded carbon speaks a single word that is universally understood - "Quality"

The extrusion process produces an incredibly uniform, reproducible, and reliable adsorbent structure.  Each MATRIKX core is converted into a finished filter component at our modern, fully automated filter assembly plant utilizing both robotic and automatic systems.

Now, whenever you see the "Genuine MATRIKX Extruded Carbon" seal, you will know your filter is of superior technology, construction and performance with "Quality to the Core" from the world's leading producer of extruded carbon - KX Industries.

"Technology that breaks the mold."
